It Was a Book First (#2) - Mockingjay Part 1

First, I just want to say that I was not originally have Mockingjay Part 1 be my first book to movie rant.  It was going to be Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief...

This is a read at your own risk type of rant.  I may inadvertently spoil something for either the book or the movie.  It is not my intentions to do so, but just consider yourself warned.

Then I finally actually watched Mockingjay Part 1 the other day with my little brother and dad...

I found it very hard to sit through it.

Why?

Effie Trinket.

WHAT WAS EFFIE TRINKET DOING IN THE FREAKING MOVIE?!

They took out 3 very lovely characters and replaced them with EFFIE.  I mean....what was wrong with having the 3 (or 2? Sorry it has been a year since I read the book...at work...when I should have been...you know...working) that are supposed to be there do their parts?!

Effie is annoying on a good day when she is where she belongs, but then you put her in a place that she doesn't belong and she just makes me want to smack her.

The more time Effie spent on the screen the more annoyed I got.  I was very happy when she wasn't where I could see her.

Other than that, I really don't get why they made this particular book in the series a 2 part movie.  If you have read the book you will probably remember that not a whole lot happens in the first half of it.  Similar to how not too much happened in the movie....

I also do not think that there was not enough time devoted to relationships between Katniss and Finnick or between Katniss and Gale.  So much was lost there.  I really hope that in part two that they are able to recover from some of the missed bits and have some things still make sense.

I hope you enjoyed my little rant about this particular book turned into a movie.  Do you have any suggestions for books to movie that I should read/watch and rant about? Do you have one that you would like to rant about.  I would be happy to let you guest post your rant onto my blog to share with the world!

  1. It makes me think of my Count of Monte Cristo rant... Except that it isn't as much of a rant, since I actually saw the movie first. ... I really need to read that book again.
