The Picture Book Wall (#1)

Have you ever found yourself staring at the picture book section, usually something that takes up an entire wall and then some, at your local bookstore?  Clueless as to which ones you should pick up for story time with your little ones?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

The children's section of a bookstore can be a frightening place.  There is almost something to distract you from your goal - your own children, someone else's kids, or maybe even that bothersome bookseller that has been staring you down for the last 10 minutes for reasons unknown to you.

Needless to say, picking out a picture book is not easy.  However, I am here to help you!  Here you will find a few picture books featured with my thoughts and ratings.  The Picture Book Wall will appear once a month on the 16th to help you navigate your way around the crazy world of picture books.  No worries though!  I will still post the occasional full review for a picture book!

Title: Snap!
Author: Hazel Hutchins
Illustrator: Dusan Petricic
Series: Stand Alone
Publisher: Annick Press
Publication Date: September 22, 2015
Source: NetGalley
My Rating: 5 stars

This book was beautifully done.  I loved the artwork.  It was colorful and creative.

I also loved the story and the lesson behind it.  It inspires one to be creative when they come across a problem.  I like that it shows children that if something becomes lost or broken to look at the situation and discover a way around it.  I also like how it works to teach colors and shows some examples of how you can mix two colors to get another one.

This book was really well done.

This book was ridiculously cute!  I love the idea of making a fairy home and leaving out some snacks for them.  Super creative and it gives a wonderful idea of something you can do with your little ones!

Title: The Night Children
Author: Sarah Tsiang
Illustrator: Delphine Bodet
Series: Stand Alone
Publisher: Annick Press
Publication Date: August 18, 2015
Source: Netgalley
My Rating:  2 stars

The best part of this book was the illustrations.  They were quite beautiful.

However, I found the story lacking.  There didn't seem to be any real point to the story.  The night children just seemed to be mischief makers that come out while the good children are asleep.  I would have liked there to be something more to the story, a lesson or a plot that made more sense.
