My Review/Thoughts

I really liked Max the Brave. I thought that is was a very cute story and very well done. Max is a little kitten who is very brave and that likes to chase mice. There is a slight problem though. Max has absolutely no idea what a mouse looks like!

We then follow along with Max as he asks various other animals if they are Mouse. Unfortunately none of them are. He eventually asks Mouse (but he has no idea he is asking him) if he has seen himself. Of course, Mouse tells him no and gives him some bad advice that ends up scaring poor little Max!

I think that this story is great to read to a little one. It allows you to open up a discussion with them about bravery and how it's okay to not be brave all the time. That it is okay to be scared once in awhile. It also features a lot of different types of animals not just Max and Mouse, allowing your littles to experience more creatures.

I also really liked the illustrations. While they were very simple they were still done very nicely and well. The colors are bold and there is very little extra going on on the page to distract your little one from the story.

Max the Brave is a great storytime book!

Ed Vere is an author, artist and illustrator with a long track record of success in the picture book category. Max the Brave was named one of The Sunday Time's 100 Modern Children's Classics. His book Bedtime for Monsters was shortlisted for the 2011 Roald Dahl Funny Prize and Mr Big was chosen by Booktrust as the official Booktime book for 2009 (and was distributed to 750,000 British schoolchildren making it the largest single print run of a picture book). Vere was the World Book Day illustrator for 2009.
